Why associations need a member-first website
A practical look at how a connected website can make the member journey easier to complete.

Most association websites are organised around the organisation. Members arrive looking for something more direct: a renewal, a course, a person, an answer, or a next step.
Start with the job to be done
Mapping the moments that matter makes it easier to see what the website needs to do. A member should not have to begin again each time they move between information, an event or their account.
Make the relationship visible
When the website and the systems behind it share a member record, staff have a clearer view of the experience they are creating. The useful question is simple: what should this person be able to do next?
The experience should feel like one organisation, not a collection of systems.
That does not mean adding personalisation everywhere. It means making the common tasks clear, keeping information current and giving members a reliable path through the work they came to do.
